Who are the Members of A.E. Post #9 and what do they do? Aviation Exploring Post #9 is part of the Learning for Life program and is sponsored by the Windy City Flyers Flying Club and Flight School located at Chicago Executive Airport (formerly Palwaukee Airport).Since it’s founding in 1994, some members of A.E. Post #9 have pursued their aviation dreams by earning their Private Pilot license, receiving A&P (Airframe and Powerplant repair technician) certification, becoming an F-16 fighter pilot, receiving an aerospace engineering degree, and graduating from the Air Force Academy. The club is made up of high-school and college students from the Chicago metropolitan area.They meet twice a month (on the first and third Monday evenings, at 7:30pm) at the offices of the Windy City Flight Club in Wheeling, IL.Club Activities include:
Classes in Aviation principles (for those interested in getting their private pilots license someday)
Attending meetings where guest speakers discuss such varying topics as flying helicopters, aerobatic flying, operations of a FAA control tower, and many more.
Visits to local airport operations centers to view and learn about the other aspects of aviation.
Our annual trip to the EAA AirVenture Airshow in Oshkosh, WI, where our members volunteer as part of the show support staff and get to experience and participate in all types of aviation activities.
Actual flying in single-engine general aviation aircraft, every other month (usually on a Saturday) with the club’s sponsor, Mr. Doug Powers, or certified flight instructors from the Windy City Flight School.
